Organic Consumers Association A troubling preliminary report released last week by a CCD (Colony Collapse Disorder) working group links pesticides to declining honeybee populations. CCD is the term used by researchers to describe the disappearance of entire hives of bees, which not only produce honey, but also pollinate crops, which make them vital to farm ecosystems.

In an article from the Porterville Recorder, California beekeeper Eric Lane points to imidacloprid, a pesticide made by Bayer CropScience, saying that the chemical "killed 70 per cent of the bee population in France." Learn more about pesticides and other issues in our Issues Pages.
