Now Where Was I?

Ah yes, headed for the city and meeting the therapist. The trip down was easy enough. I never get did get the cruise control turned on, but it was probably best that I had to monitor my speed manually. Although my daughter had programmed the GPS in my phone with the address I needed, she had failed to teach me how to input the info so I couldn't rely on that. Only once did I think I might be lost, but as it turned out I had just not gone far enough.

Short story. While I am sure the young woman was sincere enough in her approach to my needs, I won't be going back. She did validate what I had been thinking all along would be a good solution so that was worth something.

I stopped at Natural Grocers for a few items and a snack for the drive home. Glancing up as I prepared for the journey home, I was struck by the memory that just two blocks away was the exit for a sweet little tree lined blacktop that would take me all the way home. I loved being free of the noise and traffic of the highway, chose some Van Morrison from my playlists and glided south, arriving home weary, but accomplished

A nap seemed in order if I was to stay up and go listen to the band with my daughters, but that just didn't happen. Apparently the drive had wound me up quite tightly and I couldn't relax. The girls showed up mid-afternoon and we sat around and talked until about 8. Met up with other friends and one more daughter at Lucky's bar where the band was set up, but not yet playing.

The opening song was the Doobie Brothers': "Listen to the Music" and we danced a bit by the table for that one. After that it was mostly bluesy stuff, some ZZ Top and Stevie Ray Vaughn covers which weren't bad, but not dance music. Right after intermission, however, they came out with "I Shot the Sheriff" which got us all down front and dancing. And immediately following Anah and I went home.

I've been tired ever since really. Damn, sure does take it out of me to have a good time. There's a Grateful Dead cover band playing Saturday night which Erin and I had considered, but we are both thinking it's time for a rest. She is very busy with school and I'm just old. Now, if Jerry Garcia or Bob Marley would miraculously come back from the hereafter I'd be elated to be in a bed for a month after seeing them, but less than that, not worth it.

We've been getting regular rains now and everything is as green as spring. The late plantings of green beans are nearly ready for the first harvest, picked enough this morning for a lovely pot of green beans and potatoes done the old fashioned way with pork for seasoning. The husband loves them that way.

Too wet to work on the mosaic and having a hard time finding a book that grabs me though here I sit with several open. Have been doing some journalling on paper which keeps me away from here.

Sent off DNA kits for Erin, Anah, and me. I bought a ukulele which I have no idea how to play. And, have been doing some work on genealogy.

Didn't feel well all day and went back to bed this morning, a rather unheard of thing. Seem to be perking up a bit now and wanting something to eat. Thank goodness there is always something good to eat around here.

That's a bummer that that woman wasn't quite right for your needs.

That back from the dead concert would be epic.

Not disappointed as my expectations were not high.

I'm glad you at least got validation from your therapy session. That was a good take away.
Love the picture! The night out sounds like you had a blast! I love to dance, but I tire out quickly too. Good you got to rest!
Have fun with the ukulele!!!

I am satisfied with the validation, that alone has made a difference for me.

We do have fun together, love being able to party with my girls.

I hope you count your blessings every day that you have a gang of women to go dancing with.
Me? If only ...

I often "analyze" women's posture when they're standing for a photo. It's so intriguing.

And thanks for the update, lady. Was wondering how the therapy thing went for you.

Absolutely know I am blessed by my daughters, they are the best and we spend a lot of time together.

Posture, huh, I can see how that reveals much. The wind was blowing so hard we had a hard time staying upright lol

Therapy is really not affordable, but thought I'd give it a try. I think I scared that poor little girl. :)

What a great day you had - if somewhat tiring. Listen to the Music is a great song and I love ZZ Top. I shot the Sherriff is also a great song, guaranteed to be in your head for days after. While The Grateful Dead is tempting, sometimes it is better to rest and not overdo it.

Sorry the therapist was not the one for you, but glad she confirmed what you thought anyway. The drive home sounds wonderful!

Oh, and the photo. You are heading up a lovely family as the Matriarch!

The rain sounds nice...and the beans.

And ukelele is easy to play :) Although I want to play classical pieces and such on mine :P

ZZ Top is one of the husband's faves, and we once saw them together.

Of course, they played Eric Clapton's version of "I Shot the Sheriff." I much prefer Bob Marley's and he did write it, but no matter what it made me move my ancient ass for a while lol

Thanks on the picture, the blonde lady is my daughters best friend, but tge rest are mine,

Wish you were here to teach me ukulele, quite unsure that I can learn from YouTube, but trying. Daughter #2's boyfriend is a bass player snd his mom is a friend. She plays guitar and uke and has promised to help.

Has envy that you saw ZZ Top once with your husband.

Of course, Bob Marley's version is better, but Eric Clapton did a great job on most songs.

You just need an inexpensive learn to play ukelele book to start with. Plus You tube. Getting the technique just right is tricky. Once you have this under your belt, head to Ukelele Underground and get a good book to learn from. Your daughter's boyfreind's mum will also be a big help.

What a lucky thing you remembered your quiet (except for Van) road to get back from the city on. I love driving on slow roads with music on.

Good luck with the ukulele. I am not musical AT ALL (though I love listening to it) but I am having some success with the penny whistle. At least I can slowly play the notes of songs if I have “tabs” to look at. That is satisfying in itself to me even if it doesn’t sound that good to others. Maybe you can find tabs for ukulele? Can you play another instrument? That would help I imagine.

The drive home was great, glad I thought of that. I know a lot if country roads around here.

I'm going to need a lot of luck with the ukulele as I have no musical training and not a good "ear" either. Never played anything else except a kazoo. Lol

Unfamiliar with "tabs", can you tell me more?
Aug. 31st, 2018 04:42 pm (UTC)
Tabs are pictures of notes and where you put your fingers when you play the notes, so you don' t have to read music to play. I just googled "tabs for ukulele" and came up with a few websites. Here's one that looks good: https://tabs4ukulele.com/

Good luck!
