Fire in the Sky and Asparagu

After throwing together a tuna noodle casserole and trying to eat some (everything rather tastes like cardboard right now) I went outside in the dark dank day and checked on the asparagus. The husband was right on in his estimation of when it would be ready to cut and he even cut it. Looks like enough to have for dinner tonight. I can enjoy it all myself as he plays pool tonight so am hoping I'll be able to taste it.

I'm tired today, still coughing, day 2 with no fever. Recovery seems slow, but so it goes. I shouldn't complain as I have so many other blessings. Shame on me. Life, I can never get it right; but that's what comes from being a perfectionist.

We had a wild thunderstorm right at dawn this morning, a great light show and some very hard rain. Though it took its time getting here the sky water is washing us clean right now.

Our dog is 6 years old. For the the first 5 years of her life she was never freaked out by thunderstorms; then she was. I have no idea what changed, but I wish it hadn't. Though she doesn't run around all crazy as I have read some dogs do, she does want to den up under the table at the end of the couch.Today, she proceeded to perform this maneuver and laid down on top of my laptop. She is not a small dog, don't know how she manages to get under there. I removed the laptop as it seemed an uncomfortable pillow to lie on especially when she was stressed. She panted and drooled for an interminable amount of time and final wore herself out and went to sleep. I've read about the thundercoats, but have yet to feel driven to buy one. Wonder if anyone has ever gone that route.

I'm terribly nervous today, cabin fever? recovery frustration?

If I hadn't already cleaned up, I'd take a long hot bath, but the thought of getting undressed is too much. I am so tired.

Our asparagus is just starting here. Stockton is the asparagus capital of the country. When it's in season, everyone serves it in just about every way possible.

Your poor dog. Perhaps it was the severity of the storm that scared her. Do you get a lot of thunderstorms?

Looked up Stockton and asparagus, wow looks like a lot goes on with an asparagus theme during that time. I really love to eat it and it's a real treat, short season veggie here. Maybe I'll get full this year since it started so early.

We do have a lot of thunderstorms and this one wasn't by far the worst. My kids say the dog is as neurotic as I am and that's why shes scared, but I'm not afraid of thunderstorms, instead I enjoy them. She's scared of a lot of things. I blame it on a bad early childhood. we found her hiding under our porch and adopted her.

We sure do celebrate it here! We even have asparagus ice cream!

Aw, your poor little one. I wish we could talk to them for just five minutes a day and they us.

Just to know what's going on with then, I agree, so very cool, indeed.

Poor wee girl! The strays can be so weird - I presume she is fairly calm and happy the rest of the time?

I hope you were able to enjoy that asparagus. It was a BIG DEAL when I lived in Germany. Every spring, all the restaurants in our area served it by the kilo or half kilo, with butter and a bit of ham and maybe potatoes on the side. White asparagus was the best. My friend and I found some growing wild last summer, and I hope to go out soon to harvest some and transplant more to my garden. She says it is probably an escapee from a farm garden. She grew up on a farm and saw lots of it there.

She's generally quite content unless a stranger comes on to thr property, but that's her job, to let us know we're being invaded.

I don't have any white asparagus though one stalk was ver pake, found it under a flower pot. I am learning a lot of cool things about asparagus via this post. Gooc luck with finding more starts.

Enjoy asparagus season! (I'm envious, we have to wait half a year & survive winter first).
