First to mind comes an old song, "Has Anybody Seen My Gal?" Which includes the line " 5 ft. 2, eyes of blue." First popularized in 1925 by the California Ramblers, the song was covered by many artists including Dean Martin, Freddy Fender, and Mickey Gilley. Lucille Ball performed it on an episode of her show accompanying herself on a ukulele.
And, I'll never forget that I was named after a song titled, "Blue Eyed Elaine" performed by Earnest Tubb. I have a copy on CD by Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. My parents had the original old 78 rpm but it's long gone.
Then there's "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" originally performed by Roy Acuff, but best remembered by me is Willie Nelson's version. Sad song.
I'd be remiss not to mention Elton John's, "Baby's Got Blue Eyes." Elton is one of my favorite musicians and this is a great though melancholy tune.
And yes, I do have blue eyes.
