Country fields...

The fields stretch to the treeline interrupted by a small cedar now and then. The many grasses grew tall in the overly wet autumn and now lie bent and brown, shelters for small rodents. Deep ruts cut through the field marking Joe's trips to the wood pile. Deer often visit the field seeking food, water from the pond and shelter from hunters in the killing season. Not much to look at this time of year in the country fields, but come spring wildflowers will lift their heads to meet the sun, the vultures and hawks will soar overhead looking for their next meal. I watch the country field from the warmth of my house and see the changes as they come and fade away. It is the same every year so far.
