Something witnessed

We were there at the edge of the crowd when we witnessed the old lumber yard burning. It was a spectacular fire, flames that leapt high into the darkened night sky, the roar of the fire punctuated by random pops and booms as aerosol cans and other combustibles exploded. A large crowd had gathered and they were not disappointed by the conflagration.  The old building burned down to it's very foundations and unlike the Phoenix did not rise again.
