The Concert

The Wailers were fabulous.  They played many of my favorite songs, including "Redemption Song" which brings me to tears whenever I heart it.  The opening band, "Conscious Dub" was a bit strange :) A youngish group of men, who played a reggae type rock music.. The music wasn't bad, the but they could use a new vocalist.

I divided my time between the balcony and right down in front.  Somebody passed me a joint while I was in the balcony, another gray-haired devotee of Bob Marley's sound :)  and I had a moment of memories of other concerts, other times, other joints :)  I got up and danced for the last couple of songs, since they played "No Woman, No Cry" another fave.

The club where I saw the band, The Blue Note is located in Columbia, MO which is home of the University of MO and several other colleges.  Columbia is only a 30 minute drive from where I live so it offers me the opportunity to hear some great music.  And, the club is now "smoke free".. no more cigarette smoke on my clothes, making me stuff up etc.  I am divided on my feelings about this.  Though I enjoy having no cigarette smoke, I do think that business owner should be able to decide for themselves whether or not to allow smoking on their premises.  Laws restriciting personal freedoms really tend to irritate me.. but wait, this is not a political rant.

I had one drink with dinner, and smoked some great herb, hears my favorite tunes, and danced.  I couldn't ask for a more pleasing evening out.

Lyrics for Redemption Song:

Old pirates, yes, they rob i;
Sold I to the merchant ships,
Minutes after they took i
From the bottomless pit.
But my hand was made strong
By the and of the almighty.
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly.
Wont you help to sing
These songs of freedom? -
cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look? ooh!
Some say its just a part of it:
Weve got to fulfil de book.

Wont you help to sing
These songs of freedom? -
cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.
---
/guitar break/
---
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our mind.
Wo! have no fear for atomic energy,
cause none of them-a can-a stop-a the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look?
Yes, some say its just a part of it:
Weve got to fulfil de book.
Wont you help to sing
Dese songs of freedom? -
cause all I ever had:
Redemption songs -
All I ever had:
Redemption songs:
These songs of freedom,
Songs of freedom.

I'm so glad you had a great time!
Personally, I love smoke-free establishments. I used to have to leave because I got whopping migraines, now that doesn't happen (as often), and I don't get burn marks on my clothes from drunk smokers that can't walk straight. I admit, I'm biased, but I sure do love smoke-free places.

Wow - sounds like a great time! It's been ages since I've heard live music.

I probably wouldn't go on my own, but my youngest daughter and I go together.
