50 Day Question Challenge 2016 - Day 3

3. Are you religious or spiritual?

Definitely not religious though I use practices from many religions in my own. I love the Islamic prayers, the way the words roll off my tongue, Buddhist compassion meditation has a place in my life and I read a lot of Sufi literature. I find peace and affirmation in Nature and bliss in Bob Marley's music. I don't like labels and hope that by living a life that recognizes God in everyone and everything is enough.

Christ's message is at my core, and that's enough to try to live up to: I think failure is implied. Sometimes I'm very sure we don't have free will, are vehicles for some unfolding in time and space way beyond human comprehension,a/k/a pawns-in-the-game theory. what is consciousness anyway? Maharishi said it bubble up like gases in the ocean, CS Lewis described God as a "vast sea of oatmeal".

I ditched religion in my mid-teens, never looked back. I fell for Alan Watts, who opened up the world of Zen with his laugh; that man had THE best laugh! Who cares what he says? He was obviously in on the cosmic joke. Actually I did and do care, he aught me a lot.

Alan Watts has taught me a lot too. He is my go to on YouTube when i can't sleep at night. Oh, what a wonderful voice, what an amazing mind.

While I'd like to believe we have free will, I am not convinced.

I think we cannot know, that our human minds are too limited to grasp whatever you want to call the ultimate reality...as revealed in the Tao te Ching, "The Tao that is known is not the true Tao."
